Behaviour Support Practice Development Manager

Main Purpose

Implement a behaviour support practice development model to provide a proactive approach to supporting people with behaviours that challenge, in line with the Regard behaviour management strategy & policy. To act as Senior Principle Instructor for the PROACT SCIPr programme, responsible for the licensing requirements and programme of delivery, to ensure the required skill level and compliance with the accrediting body. The ABS team members in London and South East will be direct reports.

Scope of the job

Ensure the behaviour support practice development model is proactive & person-led and in line with legislation & regulation, Regard policy, sector standards and best practice. Develop the model within the Learning & Leadership Development strategy and work in conjunction with the operational team to provide support and advice for people with Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Condition and other complex needs. Contribute to the organisation’s behaviour management strategies and collate relevant data to review practice, trends and areas for improvement. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements an annual behaviour support practice development plan in line with the organisation’s business plan, ensuring this supports business needs and is flexible to cope with change.
  • Provides operational management with advice and guidance regarding all aspects of behaviour management, relating to the people we support, needs within the organisation, based on research based knowledge, experience, regulatory, legislative and sector knowledge.
  • Develops and coordinates a programme of staff development related to Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Challenging Behaviours and Learning Disabilities (LD) including designing and delivering specialist training
  • Takes ownership of the delivery of the PROACT SCIPr programme as a Principle Instructor and ensures compliance with the accrediting bodies requirements
  • Leads on the assessment of challenging behaviour and the development of proactive and reactive strategies across the organisation
  • Works with service managers and staff to identify learning and development needs of people we support and provides guidance in how to develop specific learning plans & strategies to ensure these are achieved.
  • Understands the requirements of internal and external agencies and provides recommendations and practice development in line with a multi-disciplinary team approach at service and locality level
  • Supports the delivery of the regulatory framework in both England and Wales in relation to behaviour support and provides guidance to the teams on how to evidence behaviour support practice development
  • Develops appropriate systems to collect and record data in order to provide analytical reports and recommendations to Service Managers, Operations Team and Senior Management team as relevant. Actively manages data and management information to highlight areas of further development, trends and opportunities for improvement in practice development
  • Development and management of policies relating to behaviour management within the organisation.
  • Responsible for the health and safety (H&S) of line managed members of the team, ensures completion of induction, awareness of relevant policies and procedures, safe systems of work and incident reporting.

 Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience of leading professionally diverse, geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience of formulating and implementing organisation-wide plans of work
  • Sound data and data-analysis skills
  • Excellent report-writing and information dissemination
  • Organised, methodical and accurate
  • 5+ years’ experience of working in Positive Behaviour Management in the LD sector
  • In depth knowledge of sector regulatory requirements for behaviours that challenge
  • Proact-SCIPr-UK Principle Instructor
  • Learning and Development qualified to Level 4 or above
  • Qualification in numeracy or literacy (desirable)
  • Advanced proficiency/qualification; word, excel, outlook, internet (desirable)
